Itinerary description

We started in the cosy small village of Bocigano. If you come from Madrid the easiest way to reach this village is through the road M-137, otherwise If you came from Majaelrayo and Campillo de Ranas area you would have to cross the whole Ayllon mountains, what it means a very long trip.

We had decided to spend one night observing the astronomical phenomenon called Perseidas, that’s this route took us two days, but as you can see the whole distance is just 20 kilometres, so you can perfectly do it in just one day.

You have to take the Picaños’s Loma through a narrow path. You could loose this path quite easily as there are few people who walks very often for it. This path leads you from Bocigano to the top of the Picaños’s Loma. There are some stretches where you will have to find out what is the best way to continue walking. As I told you the loneliness of the place is unbelievable.

We only saw a very old man, who lived in Bocigano, and who was caring for the goats. He said that the whole region will be deserted in the short term, because of youngsters don’t want to keep working as they do.

After going down a few dozens of meters a main path shows up. This “road” comes from “El Cardoso”, and if you take it in only half and hour you will reach the summit of the Cerron, the second highest mountain in Ayllon mountains.

From here the view is splendid, Lobo´s mountain just in front of you, with its horrible antennas, to west the high Jarama´s valley, where you can identify just in the case that you be there in autumn the Hayedo of Montejo, in the distance the carpetano’s mountains and the pyramidal shape of Peñalara.

For the coming back you must take the same path which comes from El Cardoso, but when you realise that on your left turns up another important path you must to take it, because this one in roughly two hours leads you to Bocigano, crossing an outstanding valley surrounded by oaks.

You must bear in mind that there are not springs or similar sources of waters in all the track.
