Itinerary description
BENALMÁDENA CABLE CAR STATION
Pico Calamorro
Category: Hill Walk
Meeting Place: Calle Agave, Benalmádena
Distance: 8.2 km
Grading: Medium to Heavy
Itinerary:
After parking the cars the walk starts up past a water deposit followed by a steep climb to the Cross and Ermita. The track leads west where there are great views of Fuengirola, and on a clear day, Morocco. From there it becomes windy and ascends to Puerto Viejo and then the viewpoint at the peak of Monte de Calamorro. After that it drops down to the Cable car Station for a lunch stop where there should be some shelter. (There is a chance to catch the Eagle show which starts at 1pm for 15 minutes). After that point the path follows a concrete road and heads downwards to Arroyo de la Miel, taking a direction around the mountain towards the Ermita. Here the route re-joins the earlier track taken upwards, but from this point it now travels downwards back to the start.
Note: There is an option of continuing along the concrete road directly to the cars if the weather turns unpleasant, or any walkers are tired.
Directions to the Meeting Place
From Fuengirola take the main motorway A7 towards Malaga. Turn off the A7 motorway at exit 222 towards Arroyo de la Miel and cross under the A7 by going left at the first roundabout and straight ahead at the second roundabout onto Avda Romeral. Continue up the mountain to a large roundabout and turn right onto Calle Oregano. At the T junction, turn left onto Calle Agave. The buildings on the left are Los Carmenes Urbanisation. Park on the road at the 4th block, near the zebra crossing opposite some waste ground. This is the start of the walk.
