Itinerary description
The first part of this walk is along a broad track, which stops more or less after slightly more than 2 kilometres. By then you will be at a heighth of 120 metres, and from then on you will have to find your way right up the mountain up to a heighth of 220 metres without any visible track.
From 220 metres to 420 metres you will be guided by clearly visible rock piles but there still is no track. This part is steep but the climbing is not to difficult and the climb rewards you with beautiful views.of the bay of Los Escullos.
As there was gale force 6 when we did this trip it was not possible for us to do the last 30 meters up to the top of El Fraile and after sitting on some rocks that sheltered us against the wind and enjoying the beautiful view at San José and its bay we started our descent.
On the first part of the descent there is no path and there are no rock piles to guide you but the gully from which the track comes that goes to the top of El Fraile is clearly visible and from that point the rock piles appear again.
The descent from here on is really beautiful, certainly in March with all the wild flowers blooming. After you get out of the gully the descent loses its steepness and you can comfortably walk and enjoy the beauty of the scenery.
