Itinerary description
Note: the elevation in my watch was about 150m, not the 700m this app is marking
Beautiful scenery, mostly flat, lots of shadows between the trees, perfect route that can be done if you are staying in Funchal and don't want to get into a tour hike.
You can get to Camacha via taxi, or bolt (12-15 euros) or you can take the bus 77 from the city center of Funchal.
You get started in the parroquia da Camacha, go a bit downhill until you find the levada. In that point, you just follow the levada up flow all the way until you get to Monte.
We entered 2 tunnels that are a bit sketchy to cross, but it is doable and a fun adventure. If you do them make sure to have headlight or a good phone flash.
After the tunnels, you can run all the way to monte, it is very lovely.
Once you are in Monte, you have a few nice places to eat, you can visit the tropical garden which is amazing or you can return to the city with a bus or with the teleférico (a bit pricey but worth the experience)

This route will end in Monte
But if you are brave enough you can take this other levada bon suceso and it will take you to the city center. Be aware that you add 7km and about 600m downhill to your legs if you decide to go down.
