Itinerary description

Camino de Santiago to Finisterre-Muxia: 3ª stage: Olveiroa-Corcubión (w/ English version)
As soon as we leave Olveiroa, a small climb allows us to travel through a hill overlooking the canyon that forms the Xallas River and one of its swamps. Too bad that the excellent panorama is clouded by the noise of the turbines of the nearby wind turbines.
The first town we find is the village of O Logoso. Right at its exit, an indicator indicates the presence of natural pools at 500 m. It is worth the detour, on the one hand, for the charm of the place, in which there is also a small mill, and, on the other, for the possibility of taking a refreshing bath.
The next location is Hospital. It owes its name to the presence of a hospital for pilgrims in the s. XIII (which shows that the custom of visiting Finisterre comes from afar) just where the modern information center is currently located.
Later, we have the bifurcation between Finisterre, on the left and Muxía, on the right. There are enough arguments to choose between going to Finisterre first and ending up in Muxía or doing it the other way around. We chose the first option, so turn to the left.
In a few kilometers, we reach a crossroads that also allows you to take the option of going directly to Muxía. There is, the cruceiro Marco do Couto and, very close, the curious sculpture of 2022, of a wild beast of great proportions known as "the Vákner monster". A sign under a chestnut tree explains its origin.
A little further on it is a good place to take a little break: next to the hermitage of Nosa Señora das Neves, from the s. XVIII, there is a peaceful recreational area.
And we finally saw the sea, well, the ocean. For us, Malaga is pure strain (boquerones), meeting the sea again, after so many days inland, is a satisfaction. What we have in front of us is the Corcubión estuary, the "highest" of the Galician low estuaries. On the descent to the coast, we visited the chapel of San Pedro mártir, from the s. XVII, where, if it is open, the credential can be stamped.
A steep descent, in which we deviate to visit a cruceiro with excellent views, takes us to Cee. Interesting to see there the pazo of Cotón, from the s. XVIII, next to a cruceiro, and the parish church, from the nineteenth century, although of Gothic origin. In this town, there was the most recent whaling in all of continental Europe because it was active until 1985.
In Cee, the signs of the Camino lead you through the urban area. It is more pleasant, and shorter, to go to Praia da Concha and, from there, along the coast, continue to Corcubión.
For the pilgrim, spending the night in Corcubión is a good idea because it will allow him to explore the town, declared a Historic-Artistic Site, with tranquility. Of special interest is the church of San Marcos, of Romanesque origin although essentially Gothic, from the s. XIV. Inside, a size of the s stands out. XV that represents the evangelist of the lion. If you want to take a bath, the beach of Quenxe will not disappoint you. The restaurants in the area serve excellent seafood, especially their popular clams.
