Day 14! It’s been 2 weeks today that we are walking Camino de Santiago. Unbelievable! Such a great experience.
Today we were walking from Hornillos del Camino till Castrojeriz (20.01 km shows on my Wikiloc). I really enjoyed our evening yesterday in the company of fellow pilgrims. Wanted to mention, that we met one girl from US, who is doing second time Camino de Santiago. I asked her, what time of the year was the first one, she replied, that it was in May. But this Camino she likes more! First was overcrowded, needed to get up at 6 am and get in Albergue before 2 pm.. otherwise you wouldn’t find a bed. And in Santiago de Campostella needed to wait more than 3 hours to get your credential. Now there is no problem with albergue. It’s less hot, so it’s nice to walk. And so far we were really lucky with the weather. And also you see the same faces all the time, so you have more close conversations. It’s nice. It’s my first Camino, but I kind of feel the same. Happy that I’m walking now! And I really enjoy every moment of Camino!
The day started today with quite strong fog.. that almost for 3-4 hours we hardly could see anything.. But it was still warm. Everything was covered with dew! I could feel the dew even on my eyelashes! Yesterday was so sunny day, and when it’s sun, I noticed that there is a lot of flying spiderweb.. It can be sometimes very annoying to walk through it.. But today all spiderweb was on the bushes and trees. Very beautiful!
In Hontanas we were hoping that we would find some cafe or bar opened for breakfast (we left without eating, because nothing was available in our albergue or village). But everything in Hontanas was closed. I was joking, that if we will not lose weight by walking almost every day, we would definitely lose weight by not eating anything like this…
I should definitely mention Ruins of the Monastery San Anton - amazing place. There is a host from Czech Republic, who looks after it. And there is also albergue there (Anna was staying there yesterday). But there is no hot water, no electricity.. After yesterday I took a cold shower (was warm in beginning but after I put shower gel they decided to fix something.. so I needed to rinse myself with freezing cold water)… I said, that sorry, I can’t do it today! I need hot shower! But the place is very nice! In summer it would be great place to stay! And Peter, is very interesting guy. He is walking from when he was 25 (now he is 41).. and he walked more than 87000km.. He told us few stories about his visitors, about the monastery.. Gave us hot coffee with cookies. We were happy.
On the way we also visited church Santa Maria del Manzano (dated 1214). It was supposed to be closed but we met a man, who opened it to us. And told us a lot about this church, built by Templars.
But staying we overnight in Castrojeriz, in albergue A Cien Leguas. I would say, that this is the best albergue we stayed so far! I love it! Food here was delicious and very friendly owner! And everything is so beautiful and cozy!
