Day 21 of Camino Santiago. Today we were walking from Leon to San Martin del Camino (26.23 km).
Few words about yesterday.. We had a wonderful day of rest and sightseeing.. First we visited Cathedral de Leon (dated to thirteenth century). It is famous for it’s stained glass. Depends of the time of the year, and time of the day it’s really beautiful when sun goes through the glass. But we had a cloudy day, so it was quite dark and cold inside. If we compare Cathedral of Burgos and in Leon, we liked in Burgos more (but it’s only our opinion). Later we visited one of the Gaudi’s creations: casa Botines (I’m a big fan of Gaudi’s work. Visited almost all of his buildings, only one in Astorga left - will visit it tomorrow! And one in Sitges and one in Barcelona).. Unfortunately the facade of the building is under restoration, so we couldn’t see it.. But still it was very interesting to see it inside! Also we visited Basilica San Isidoro. And few other small places and museum. So it was quite intense day for sightseeing!
Now about today.
Today we said goodbye to our friend Ying, who was walking with us almost 500 km! She decided to stay in Leon one more night to rest more. So we most probably will not see her. But who knows? It was heartbreaking goodbye! Even Ying and Anastasia cried a bit… (I don’t like to cry!)
When you are living old city, it’s a beautiful building you will pass, called in. Some part of it belongs to 5-star hotel (can’t even imagine how much will it cost to stay there).. We tried to get a coffee there, but bar was closed.. Almost all the way today was next to the main road. Lots of traffic and exhaust.. There was another option to choose more beautiful road through Villar de Mazatife (but it is 6 km more).. Day was very cloudy and time to time drizzled (but we didn’t put our raincoat, because it was only short time). Here in San Martin del Camino we are staying in very cozy albergue. It has small rooms of 2 bunk beds. So I’m the room it’s only 4 of us (one new girl from Taiwan and one, called Barbara from Italy). Here Anna caught up with us! So we will have today nice dinner together in our albergue (most of the people here will have dinner. So it will be fun!)
