Camino de Santiago Primitivo: 8ª etapa: Fonsagrada-O Cádavo (w/ English version)

Nuestra idea inicial para este día era conectar con el camino histórico, que pasa por A Proba de Burón, pero amaneció con una densa niebla y decidimos que no merecía la pena. Así que optamos por la ruta actual, que se dirige hacia la parroquia de O Padrón.
A la salida de Fonsagrada, llama la atención una caseta a la derecha sobre un prado privado. Es un curioso lugar de descanso habilitado por el propietario para los peregrinos, donde estos pueden sellar la credencial y tomar algo mientras escuchan música clásica. Más adelante, se halla la bonita área recreativa Lomada Pérgua, con mesas y bancos de madera y una fuente.
El camino es muy apacible y agradable de andar, combinando zonas panorámicas con sendas que atraviesan la vegetación típica del bosque gallego.
A los nueve kilómetros, se llega a las ruinas del antiguo hospital de peregrinos de Montouto, fundado por Pedro I “el cruel”, en 1357 y que estuvo en funcionamiento hasta el s. XVIII. Justo al lado, tenemos una joya arqueológica a la que apenas se le presta atención: los restos del dolmen megalítico de as Pedras Dereitas, de más de 3000 años de antigüedad.
Se inicia, a continuación, un prolongado descenso hasta el paraje de O Couto, en el que hay un hermoso ejemplar de tejo. A partir de este punto, comienza la pronunciada subida conocida como la cuesta del Sapo, que nos conducirá hasta el alto de Fontaneira (934 m). En un rato, superando algunas subidas y bajadas, llegaremos a nuestro destino, la pequeña población de O Cádavo. Destacar que en sus inmediaciones, tuvo lugar en el 813, el mismo año del descubrimiento de los restos del apóstol, una importante batalla entre las tropas de Alfonso II, el Casto, y los musulmanes, en la que aquel resultó victorioso. Tan cruenta fue que a la zona se la conoce desde entonces como “campo da Matanza”.

Primitive Camino de Santiago: 8ª stage: Fonsagrada-O Cádavo (w/ English version)

Our initial idea for this day was to connect with the historic road, which passes through A Proba de Burón, but it dawned with a dense fog and we decided that it was not worth it. So we opted for the current route, which is heading towards the parish of O Padrón.

At the exit of Fonsagrada, a hut on the right on a private meadow is striking. It is a curious place of rest enabled by the owner for pilgrims, where they can stamp the credential and have a drink while listening to classical music. Further on, there is the beautiful Lomada Pérgua recreational area, with wooden tables and benches and a fountain.

The path is very peaceful and pleasant to walk, combining panoramic areas with paths that cross the typical vegetation of the Galician forest.

At nine kilometers, you can reach the ruins of the old pilgrims' hospital of Montouto, founded by Pedro I "el cruel", in 1357 and which was in operation until the s. XVIII. Right next to it, we have an archaeological jewel that is barely paid attention: the remains of the megalithic dolmen of as Pedras Dereitas, more than 3000 years old.

Then, a prolonged descent begins to the place of O Couto, where there is a beautiful specimen of yel. From this point, the steep climb known as the Sapo slope begins, which will lead us to the top of Fontaneira (934 m). In a while, overcoming some ups and downs, we will arrive at our destination, the small town of O Cádavo. It should be noted that in its vicinity, it took place in 813, the same year of the discovery of the remains of the apostle, an important battle between the troops of Alfonso II, the Caste, and the Muslims, in which he was victorious. It was so bloody that the area has since been known as "campo da Matanza".
