Itinerary description

English version:
This could be called the stage of the militias or, which is the same, the most "Silver" stage of the entire "Vía de la Plata", because it is the one that most conforms to the itinerary of what was the Iter ab Emérita Asturicam, the road built by the Romans connecting Mérida with Astorga to which Seville would also be added, known since the Middle Ages as "Vía de la Plata".
We left our accommodation in Alcuéscar going through its streets. At the "los Muchachos" bar, which opens early, we had a coffee, but there are better options for breakfast.
We travel the distance between Alcuéscar and Casas de don Antonio crossing beautiful meadows. We enter this town through a medieval bridge built over a Roman one over the Ayuela River. This river already belongs to the Tagus basin, so we definitively abandoned the Guadiana basin.
In Casas de don Antonio, we can visit a magnificent roll that could be from the s. XVI, and, above, the church of Our Lady of the Assumption, from the same time. The road between this town and the next, Aldea del Cano, runs parallel to the road. At kilometer 12 of the stage, we find the first mill, the "XXVII". Its location is quite surprising because it is embedded, like another stone, in the stone wall that acts as a demarcation of a terrain, in such a way that it goes practically unnoticed. The second of the militias, the XXVIII is even more peculiar. Also, as in the previous case, it has been used for purposes very different from those in which it was conceived, because the owners of the nearby farmhouse of Santiago de Bencáliz had no better idea than to practice a large slit so that it served as a mailbox in which to deposit the mail, hence it is known as the "miliary of the Postman". This farmhouse also gives its name to a beautiful medieval bridge that is further on.
The next milestone is the number XXX. It is semi-buried and at the height of the town of Aldea del Cano, from which the bell tower of the church of San Martín is clearly visible. After this town, the road passes next to a service area of the "Ruta Vía de la Plata" highway. In it, the Casa Rufino restaurant is used to receiving hungry (and tired) pilgrims. The last of the military that is preserved in the stage, the XXXII, is lying on the ground between the bushes. From it, you can see on the right in the distance, the castle of Garabato, from the s. XIII, in private hands. Nearby, the remains of a dolmen, known as the Garbato dolmen, are located. I was looking for it but I couldn't find it.
Later, the road passes the flight field of Cáceres "la Cervera", which seems abandoned and, immediately after, the remains of a Roman village that was at the foot of the Vía de la Plata. Shortly after, you can see on the right, on the other side of the highway, the castle of the Arguijuela de Abajo, originally from the s. XV, although very renovated and converted into a popular place for the celebration of events (the typical BBC).
To get to Valdesalor, the destination of today's stage, you have to cross the Salor River, which gives its name to the town, through the beautiful Mocha bridge, of medieval origin on a previous one of Roman trace.
Valdesalor is a recently created hamlet of Cáceres (1963), so it is of almost no monumental appeal. The purpose of staying here is not to prolong this stage beyond the almost 29 km that we have already walked.
We stop the track at the Posada de la Plata hostel (.https://maps.app.goo.gl/UQL8ycpniGoGxGYy5), our place of accommodation.
