Itinerary description

English version:
This is the most emblematic stage of the entire Vía de la Plata, both from the monumental point of view, when crossing the famous arch of Cáparra, symbol of the Vía de la Plata as it passes through Extremadura, and for the beauty of the landscapes along it.
At the same time, it is a hard stage for the distance, exceeding 40 kilometers, and for the accumulated slope (450 D+). It is possible to shorten it about 10 kilometers by staying overnight at the Asturias hostel, which is located on the highway. To do this, a 2-kilometer detour would be taken to the right at the height of Jarilla. However, if this is done, the next stage would be increased by 12 kilometers.
We left the accommodation very early, having breakfast in the same parking lot, and we headed to the Plaza de España in Carcaboso. That's where the signaling of the stage begins. After a stretch down a lane, we enter the pasture through beautiful paths. We walk for kilometers with no more reference than the immense holm oaks and the granite bowls, lost in the foresty of the forest. It would not be surprising if it was these oaks that inspired Machado to write "the same field became a tree in you, brown oak."
At twenty kilometers, right in the middle of the Camino, the arc of Cáparra appears to us, slender, proudly displaying its four arches, the only quadriform Roman arch in all of Spain. And, although it is no longer even the shadow of what it was, when it was built twenty centuries ago, by a wealthy Roman in memory of his parents, it still stands imposing in the countryside. How many human beings will you have seen in these two thousand years?
The fact that the arch is right in the middle of the Camino is not a coincidence. The arch was built right at the confluence of the two main streets - the decumanus and the cardus - of the Roman city of Cáparra, making the Roman road that we know today as Vía de la Plata coincide with the decumanus of the town. The archaeological site of Cáparra is museumized and has a visitor center with panels and an explanatory video, being its visit free. It can be said that the part of the decumanus that is preserved is the best preserved section of the Vía de la Plata.
For all these reasons, the arch of Cáparra is the symbol of the Greenway as it passes through Extremadura as can be seen in the stone blocks that serve as a guide to the route along this Autonomous Community.
We continue the route until we come across a regional road that we follow for several kilometers, until it is located at the height of the highway. At this point, the road crosses the river de la Higuera by blocks of stone, but the current had taken the intermediate and it was not possible to wade it there, so we had to do it by crossing the bridge of the national road. From this place, the most prudent thing is to follow the signage that, through a livestock road, leads to Aldeanueva del Camino and that's what we did. This section is also of great scenic attraction. However, there are pilgrims who decide to continue on the shoulder of the national road, since it is shorter (although, evidently, it entails some danger).
Aldeanueva del Camino is a town linked to the Jacobean route, as its same name attests. It is a town located at the foothills of the mountains and its mountainous character is manifested in the popular architecture of its homes, very different from the one we have seen so far, with wooden balconies that remind us of the Salmanto villages of the Peña de Francia. The town has the Casa Sebas restaurant (https://maps.app.goo.gl/nbagK2fFGRN7peqd6? G_st=ic), in which you eat very well.
We stayed at the Ambroz y Plata rural house (https://maps.app.goo.gl/VDR98PsYDHTYeidF9? G_st=ic).
