Itinerary description

Monotonous stage, practically flat, crossing agricultural farms with little treatment of slurry (judging by the stench) by wide lanes without shadow. It passes through two towns: Calzadilla de los Barros and Puebla de Sancho Pérez.
We leave from our accommodation in Fuente de Cantos to the Parish of Our Lady of Granada, in the Plaza de la Constitución. Right next door, is the Salas bar, which opens early for breakfast. In our exit from the town, we went through several of its prominent places: the convent of the Barefoot Carmelites, from the s. XVII; the hermitage of Santo Cristo, from the eighteenth century; the birthplace of Zurbarán and the hermitage of San Juan, from the s. XVI.
In 7 km, we reach the town of Calzadilla de Los Barros. In it, the parish of the Divine Savior, from the s. XV. Its Gothic-Mudejar altarpiece was declared a National Monument, although, as is usually customary with religious heritage in Spain, I could not visit it because it was closed.
About 3 km further on, we find a fork. The road twists sharply to the right, towards the road, to cross the Atarja river, which may be overgrown. It was not the case, so we decided to continue straight and we had no problem wading it.
The second town of the day, Puebla de Sancho Pérez, is very close to the end of the stage. It was under the jurisdiction of the Order of Santiago, hence the Jacobean sword is part of its shield. The Camino passes next to the church of Santa Lucía, from the 13th century, with a Mudejar-style bell tower. On the outskirts of the town, apart from the itinerary, is the hermitage of Our Lady of Bethlehem, originally from the s. XVI and, next to it, a bullring that could be from the s. XIV and that has the particularity of being rectangular.
It is advisable to arrive in Zafra in time to visit it because its historic center is of a great monumentality. The stage ends in the Candelaria church (s. XVI), but I have geolocated the most prominent monuments on the map.
