Desde Lebeña venimos en coche para evitar andar por la carretera nacional y nos dejan a la entrada del pueblo. Tomamos el camino que discurre junto al río después de las casas y después de cruzar un puente vemos una bifurcación en el camino. Nosotras tomamos el camino que sigue junto al río aunque no esté marcado en el mapa, pero vemos que el otro sigue paralelo para terminar en una carretera local que ya viene marcada otra vez como el Camino Lebaniego oficial con las flechas rojas.

Seguimos con mucho calor hasta Tama, donde hay restaurantes y tiendas y cogemos fuerzas para el resto del camino hasta llegar al Monasterio.

Desde Tama el camino es fácil pero el “oficial” te lleva por la carretera nacional. Hay aceras y camino para peatones pero nosotras preferimos seguir el camino por detrás del rio que llega hasta Potes. En Potes bajamos al río, nos refrescamos y nos preparamos para la subida al Monasterio.

El Monasterio cierra a las seis, aunque en la página web pone que a las siete en verano. Así que ojo con eso por si vais justos de tiempo como íbamos nosotras.

We were dropped at the entrance of Castro where we took the path behind the houses that runs along the river. After crossing a bridge we find a fork on the path. We took the one closer to the river that is not marked in the map but the other one runs parallel to it. The path ends in a local road that is part of the oficial Lebaniego Walk so we started following the red arrows again.

We continued until Tama, where there are shops and restaurants; we took a break from the heat and gathered strength to continue the ascend to the Monastery.

From Tama, it’s an easy walk to Potes but the official route takes you by the national road, that has a pedestrian lane. However we preferred to cross the river and walk on a path that continues in parallel behind the river and takes you all the way to Potes.

At Potes we went down to walk by the river and took the opportunity to dip our feet in the water and freshen up before the hot ascent without any shade that takes us all the way to the Monastery, Santo Toribio.

The monastery closed at 6pm even though the website said 7pm so watch out if you are tight for time as it was our case.
