Itinerary description
This walk will give you a good impression of the beauty and the diversity of nature of the Val de Laguar. From the picturesque rugged to the romantic idyllic. It is all to be found and enjoyed here.
We started this walk in Campell from the well indicated public parking. The first part of the track, to Fleix is the steepest part of the walk.
From Fleix to Benimaurell we took a mountainbike track that will lead you to the Font Grossa. Shortly after this you will see that the PR-CV 147, a circular route of 14 kilometres, will follow the steep track down into the Barranc del Infern, a 250 metres descent into the spectacular and narrow canyon with its 6800 stone steps if you do the circular route.
The mountainbike track, however, will take you past Olive groves and Cherry tree orchards to Benimaurell with wonderful views on the Cavall Vert Ridge, also called the Sierra del Penya Roig ridge (the red rock ridge).
From Benimaurell we followed the PR- CV 181 that will lead you to the east staying 150 metres under the Cavall Vert ridge. This is a beautiful part of the walk. The views to the ridge are awesome.
There is a nice resting place at the Font del Penyo with its picknicktable and more or less 500 metres after this we followed the PR-CV 181 track down to a road where we left the signposted track to stay longer at the altitude of 500 m. to enjoy the extensive view towards the coast.
Reaching the edge of the wooded area we started following the PR-CV 181 again on its descent to the access road of Fontilles, a former leprosy centre (beginning 20th century). You can still clearly see the nine-foot-tall, two-foot-thick and two-mile-long wall, which took seven years to build, in order to prevent patients to escape.
The last 150 metres of this descent are very stony and a bit tricky.
Arriving at the access road to Fontilles we left the PR-CV 181 again to take the easier way to the next PR-CV 181 signpost on the road (the CV-721). From here the yellow/white marked track will lead you to one more Font, the Font d'Isbert, and then along a narrow track up to Campell.

We did part of this walk and would agree with the comment:
"The last 150 metres of this descent are very stony and a bit tricky."
For this pair of 70 year old it was too much and we retreated and went round by the road. :-)
Beautiful area though and worth exploring.
Thanks for your reaction 😊 I fully understand your decision not to do this last part. I was seventy too when we did this walk and I really hated this last stretch. So glad there had been no rain for a long time there 😉
We have history on this route. The last time we tried it my wife ended up in Denia hospital. So we were cautious today!
Then I am glad you were!
