Camping Les Ochay: Big tour via Dohan

Start your walk at Camping Les Ochay in Mortehan:

!!!Being able to navigate on gps or map is a must since the paths are not always very clear in the “wilderness”-area between km24,50 and km28,50!!!

At camping Les Ochay turn left to cross the bridge over the Semois. At the first junction turn left and follow the road until you come to some paths on your left and you’ll have to take the third one. It is clearly the steepest, most rocky one too, you can’t miss!
On the other side of the road you’ll find a lovely picnic/bbq area called “ La Coulee Verte”

So, you take the third, steepest rocky path on the lefthandside of the main road and follow this until you reach a small junction. Here you turn left and now the climb is much less steeper as in the beginning. We stay on this path for more than a kilometer until we reach another junction where, again, we turn left. Keep following the wide forestroad and soon you’ll find yourself at Rue de la Chapelle which you have to cross. Watch out for cars!
On your right you’ll see a brown sign across the street saying: “Grotte Saint Remacle” Follow this forestroad for awhile.

A few hundreds meters after you crossed the street you’ll notice a small path on your right going downhill. Take this!
Follow this main path until you reach tarmac. Walk on the tarmac, this will get you to Auby-sur-Semois where you head in the direction of the church. 50 meters before the church you take a left towards Camping Maka. Follow this road all the way down. You will cross a bridge over Ruisseau des Aleines. A hundred meters further you’ll notice a wooden board with directions.
Go in the direction of Saut des Sorcieres! Follow the main path all the way uphill until you reach a green fence. On your right, deep down, you see La Semois. This is Saut des Sorcieres!
Stay on the path downhill next to the green fence, this brings you to a road which you follow by taking a right. Soon you’ll notice a bench and a great view, this is Le Mont de Zatrou!
Follow the road through Les Hayons, passing the church until you reach a chapel at a junction. Keep left here and a few meters further you reach Col des Hayons.

At the top, you turn left following a very quiet road all the way. Where the pavement ends, continue on the wide forest road. Later on it turns inti a smaller forest path. At a junction, stay right and continue on the main path, ignoring paths on your left and right! We are now descending!
You will end up at a gravel road, where you take a right, cross a little stream, Ruisseau des Gorges, and continue straight ahead (leftside) towards Dohan. We will now follow the red rectangle sign 17 until Dohan. On our left La Semois accompanies us.

In Dohan walk around the church towards Chez Laurette, a small taverne. Cross the street and head for the road named Dohan Bas, inbetween the white building (Les Lumerettes) and the pink one (auberge Ardennaise).
At a first junction, go right. At the second one, go left! You are now walking on a gravel road.
After awhile you’ll reach a road where you go left! After +/- 250 meters: take the smaller one on your left, passing by an old barn. Later on this road turns into a forestroad, La Semois all the time on your righthandside. Ignore paths on right and left and stay on the “main” forestroad!
This will eventually get you back in Dohan.

Just before Dohan you pass by a great viewing point: Point de vue de la Schevauchée. There’s also a bench!

A bit further down In the fields you’ll come to a T-junction where you go right. Stay on this road until you come to a junction in Dohan (the church is a bit further in front of you!) Now, go right and cross the bridge!
After the bridge, follow the tarmac road on your righthandside. A hundred meters further, go left inbetween two houses (a grey one and a wooden/stone one).
You’ll notice a small bridge over Ruisseau des Acenses. Head towards it! Cross the small bridge and continue on the forestroad. Ignore sidepaths and stay on the “main” forestroad. After quite awhile you arrive at a T-junction. Go right here!
Again: stay on the “main” forestroad, ignoring sidepaths.

Hard to explain but at some point you will have to go left on a small path. This will bring us back towards Mortehan. Look closely at the recorded trail to see where I took the turn!
We are now entering a quiet zone: sssssttt!
(I made a mess of this short section since there were a few closures in september to prepare for hunting season…)
Make sure to be quiet and not to harm any fauna or flora!) If you follow my trail you will eventually reach the road towards Mortehan. Ofcourse you can make your own path through this wilder area!

When you reach the road, turn right.
Watch out for cars!!! Walk on the road for about two kilometers and then take the path on your left! Its the first one you see since you walked on the road! We are now descending towards Cugnon. At a T-junction go right on a gravel/tarmac road and follow this all the way to the main road. On the main road, turn left and stay on the main road until you reach the church in Mortehan.
Here, turn right into Rue de la Cherreau and after a few meters you continue left. Follow the road until you reach another junction where, again, you go left. Follow this road, Rue des Minieres, all the way down towards Camping Les Ochay.
