Camping Les Ochay: Tunnel de Linglé, Ruins Chateau d’Herbeumont, Viaduc Conques and Tombeau du Chevalier

Start your walk at Camping Les Ochay in Mortehan:

At camping Les Ochay turn left to cross the bridge over the Semois. At the first junction turn left and 100 meters down the road you take the uphill road on your right. At a junction, take the path through the forest on your right and stay on the righthandside all the way until you reach the road again. Go left, follow the road for about 100 meters until you take the forestroad on the other side of the road. This will bring you towards a small viaduct.

Right before the viaduct you climb on a path on the righthandside. On top of the viaduct you go right towards the “Tunnel de Lingle” where you walk through. (Flashlight or smartphone comes in handy)

After walking through the tunnel you’ll pass by a picnictable with a nice view over the Semois!

Continue on on the clear forest path until you almost reach another viaduct (you are almost on top of it)where you descent via a small path on your left which will bring you to the street under the viaduct. Cross the main road, walk under the bridge and immediately after: take the street on your left. Soon you’ll walk next to Camping La Garenne. At the T-junction, go left and walk in the direction of Herbeumont.

In Herbeumont, pass the church on the righthandside. Follow Rue de la Roche until the end where you take a right, cross the bridge and walk uphill towards the ruins of the medieval fortress. Take your time exploring it. At the entrance of the ruins you’ll notice a small gate where you have to go through. You’ll probably have the company of some sheep here.
Walk past the ruins until you walk through some fences and here you enjoy a lovely view over La Semois. Descent immediately on your left, having the fence on your lefthandside. It is a quite steep but very doable and very short section. Only 50 meters further you’ll notice another fence on your left which you go through and now you descent through the forest!
Out of the forest you turn left and a bit further you turn right.

This brings you to a viaduct over the main road. Before the road, you’ll notice an uphill path on your left. Take it and this will get you on top of the viaduct! Cross the viaduct and continue on. Soon you cross another one, Viaduct Conques where have a nice view over a campsite along La Semois.

You’ll reach a U-turn, which you follow, leaving paths on your left besides you! You’ll end up on the main road which you follow for about 50 meters. Watch out for cars!!! Take the first path on your left and start climbing towards a panoramic spot. This spot is a few meters to your right after you come to a junction of paths. You’ll see the ruins and the the viaduct you walked over from here.

Head back for a few meters and continue on the wider forest path. You’ll walk by a little shelter hut. At a junction, continue on the right forestroad. Inbetween a fence and a bench, take the path on your right.
Continue all the way towards the panoramic spot Libaipire overlooking Le Tombeau du Chevalier. A bit further there is a second spot! Here you also find a little shelter!

Continue on, at the next T-junction: take a right and soon you find yourself on a very quiet tarmac road through the forest. We follow it by taking a right here! We will actually walk this road for about 6 kilometers all the way into Mortehan. There’s not really any other way to get back. The GR16 follows it too. I didn’t really mind… The forest and later on the wide vistas are lovely and there aren’t that many cars on this road…

In Mortehan, at a junction, go right and follow this road, Rue des Minieres, all the way down towards Camping Les Ochay.
