Itinerary description
Pleasant forest walk from Can Jou to Besalú, with some great views along the way. The path mostly follows the ridge of the Serra el Mor until Font de Planells, and then descends into the Fluviá valley passing the sanctuary of Sant Ferriol. The path downhill from Sant Ferriol is quite steep and rocky. For the rest, the route consists of easy unpaved paths and forest roads. Arriving at Besalú over the bridge is very rewarding!
The route is mostly waymarked with yellow paint markers, and signposts can be found at various points, but still pay attention to where you go.
This is a one-way downhill route; going back the same way means going uphill, and is therefore more difficult, but since Can Jou has no public transport connections, there is no alternative unless you organize your own transport.
Starting point: parking at Can Jou (approx. 15 minutes drive from Sant Jaume de Llierca)
End point: Prat de Sant Pere, the central square in Besalú.
There are no opportunities for refreshment along the route, so bring enough water, especially on warm days. In Besalú, there are lots of bars and restaurants; however, be aware that these may be full during lunchtime, especially in the holiday period.
