Itinerary description
Pleasant hike along the Canal du Midi between the Bridge of Villesesquelande and Carcassone, on a wonderful spring day. We pass the local vineyards, brick bridges from the original construction, two aqueducts where small creeks pass under the Canal, and a few locks, including Lalande double lock, closely followed by Herminis, where a nice restaurant can be found. It finishes at Carcassonne lock, close to the railway station.
The Canal du Midi is a UNESCO site and the walk from Toulouse to Carcassone was selected to Lonely Planet Epic Hikes in Europe.
