Itinerary description
A very interesting varied walk along Canal Intermedio that runs from around La Sabinita in the east to Adeje and beyond.
We join the canal after driving up Torviscas Alto to the top road called Calle Andorra where there is easy parking.
A short walk up the hill at the eastern end of the road leads to the canal.
The canal at this stage is open with running water flowing – this attracts many plants, animal and birds. There are many droppings of the shy Mouflon along the way and many glimpses of the grey wagtail with very small fishes and insects in the canal.
This can be a there and back trip of your own choosing in terms of distance – although there is an option to carry on to Adeje by taking the track downhill to the left at the end of the marked trail – but I guess a taxi back to the car would be required.
The route is generally easy – sometimes there is a roof on the canal making much easier progress.
Besides the great view both towards the coast and inland, there is also a good selection of plants growing near the canal although the running water vanishes into a reservoir after a while after which a plastic pipe is used. An abandoned house up on the hill is passed called “The White House”.
Crossing the canal are numerous metal pipes coming down from the hills – some of which running water can be heard.
An Enjoyable walk.
