Itinerary description
The 90km Carnarvon Great Walk takes you through the amazing, protected Gorge then you ascend up to dry open country above the gorge. Once you head off on day two from Big Bend Camp, you leave the main tourist track behind and start the remote section of the hike. Whilst much of the next few days will be through open bushland, crossing dry creeks and ridges, there are several superb locations such as Battleship Spur, where there are stunning views and you feel like your on top of the world. Most hikers will take 6 days/ 5 nights to complete the full circuit with days 1, 2 and 6 being the most visually spectacular. All 5 campsites have water but be aware there are not toilets at the last 2 camps. To attempt this walk you need to be an experienced, fit hiker and carry the full range of gear including emergency beacon.
