Itinerary description
At the river, enjoy your first great view from the red lighthouse 'farol'. Throughout this walk to Cristo Rei, you'll have beautiful views of Lisbon, the red bridge 'Ponte 25 de Abril', Belém and more.
After the 'farol', you'll pass by the 'barcos', the ferry terminal from Cacilhas to Lisbon. You can also start your walk here if you prefer.
Continue along the river on 'Rua do Ginjal', passing abandoned warehouses and former canning factories now filled with street art. It's a cool mix of old buildings, street art, and lovely river views.
Just before reaching the river garden 'Jardim do Rio', you'll pass two well-known restaurants 'Ponto Final' and 'Atira-te ao rio'. In the garden, you can relax and catch amazing sunsets. There’s also an elevator to Old Almada 'Almada Velha' here.
After the 'Jardim do Rio', you'll pass the Maritime museum 'museu naval'.
Following the river again, you'll start to see the 'Cristo Rei', the red bridge gets closer, and the street art and great views continue.
Next, you arrive at the ruins of 'Quinta de Arealvo', an old olive oil farm. You'll need to go up one floor here to continue towards Cristo Rei.
Back at the river, check out the viewpoint 'Miradouro' Arealvo, where a scene from the Netflix series 'La Casa de Papel' was shot.
Now comes the only physically challenging part of the walk - the climb towards Cristo Rei. But once you get there, the view of the majestic monument is totally worth it. You can visit the church, go up the statue, grab a drink at the bar, check out the souvenir shop, or just enjoy the views and the statue.
We hope you enjoy this walk.
