Casco Histórico Coin
This is a short circular walk taking in the old historic centre of Coin.
It starts from the underground car park in Plaza Villa. It’s only a couple of euros for 3 hours.
You start by going through the shaded Parque San Agustin, then going down and passing the fountains in Plaza Principe de España.
From Plaza San Agustin you make your way to the San Andrés church (which is being renovated at the moment).
Next you come to the convent and church of Santa Maria de la Encarnación. This is also the exhibition centre for the work of Antonio Reyna Manescau. It is well worth a visit to this art museum (also being renovated at the moment). Opening times are Monday to Friday
10am – 2pm and 5pm – 8pm. closed weekends.
Carrying on you then pass a flour mill (El Molino) which is still in use, from here you go to Plaza San Andrés, which goes into the main plaza – Plaza Alameda, which has a nice Mediterranean feel to it. Passing through it you arrive at the Torre de los Trinitarios, a triangular tower that goes back to the 18th century.
Next you arrive at the church of San Juan Bautista in the hidden Plaza Bermúdez de la Rubia. This church has the smallest statute of a virgin that is worshiped in Spain. La Fuensanta.
Make your way through two plazas – Plaza Escamilla, and my favourite Plaza Villa.
Plaza Villa is a good spot to have some refreshments as there are a few bars around.
I was surprised how much more there is to Coin and I found the circuit very enjoyable.
