Itinerary description
🥾 We only recently discovered this nice short hike close to our home!
🗺 The route starts in the vicinity of Careses. There are a few parking spots at the start of the route. The first part of the trail slowly ascends through the Asturian countryside, passing some hamlets and tunnels. Be sure to follow the map, because there are quite a few intersections!
🌄 Then, a steeper part of the route starts, where you climb up to 550 m to ascend the Peña Careses peak. We were really surprised by the beautiful panorama that unfolded: on the one side, we could see Oviedo with the Paramo mountain range in its background. When turning around, we could clearly see Gijon and the sea. If you live in between these two cities, like us, you can even try to find your home!
🐴 After being accompanied by some horses, we started the way back. This was a bit tricky because of the steep descent and loose and slippery rocks. We therefore actually recommend doing this route the other way around!
🏞 This is a circular route, meaning that you arrive at the parking again. Don´t forget to enjoy the views in the last part. We had wonderful views of the Picos de Europa!
😍 All in all, a surprising and enjoyable hike not far from the bigger cities in Asturias!
