Itinerary description
A walk of low to medium difficulty starting and ending at the ‘clock’ roundabout in Velez Rubio. Total distance is 13.5 kilometres.
From the roundabout take calle de nuestro Padre Jesus. On one corner is a tobacconist and on the other ‘Cortinas Carmen’.
The first part of the walk is along the rambla taking in Fuente Perro and Fuente Gato.
There is no sign at Fuente Perro designating it as ‘potable’ however the water at Fuente Gato is renown for its high iron content thus being recommended for anyone suffering from anaemia.
The path to the summit of Castellón (signposted Paraje de Ginte) is steep but well worth the climb for the stunning views from the summit. There are the ruins of an old Arabic fortress at the top.
When you get back to Velez Rubio you can take a stroll through this historic village and its well worth visiting the Museum, Church of the Incarnation and Convent.
