Itinerary description
This hike you can book with a group in Cat ba, but we decided to do it on our own and it was easy. Just took a taxi to the entrance of the park and followed the main trail all the way to the other side. We left early in the morning to get there before the groups so we had the whole place for ourselves! You can take a boat back to Cat ba - the cheapest option is the one that leaves at 1 pm, later you have to charter a boat. The hike itself was easy to moderate and a lot shorter than we belived. I was a bit dissapointed because you have to walk a lot on concrete roads and man-made stone strairs - not my idea of a jungle track really... After the Frog pond (a big puddle in reality, with quite a lot of garbage around) finally it gets more fun, with the path following through a stony area, with some ups and downs. A little climbig is included here and there but not very difficult. Some rocks are sharp so good hiking shoes are needed! Reaching the village (possible to buy food and drinks) means the end of privacy and nice trails. All the way to the harbour you walk on a concrete road, plenty of boat passangers passing by on bikes and minibuses. The boat ride back to town is quite scenic.
