Itinerary description
This was an amazing day and full on experience. Initially, we intended to only hike from Cebollapampa to Laguna 69 and back but we decided to continue on to the Refugio Peru hut and back down to Cebollapampa. If you do this hike, you almost reach 5000 metres so make sure you are acclimatised.
Time = 8 hours
Transport
Get to Yungay early and grab a Colectivo (usually a car) which cost 15 SOLs per person to Cebollapampa. We left Yungay at 0600 hrs and arrived at Cebollapampa at 0730 hrs. I recommend negotiating with the driver on route a price to drive you back and he will wait for you to finish (between 15 and 20 SOLS per person return).
Cebollapampa to Laguna 69
This is an obvious path all the way and if you pace yourself you can do it in 3 hours
We were the first ones there and once we had done our photo shoots the crowds arrived. Started chatting to some guys who were keen to do the circuit via the "Refugio Peru" and back down to Cebollapampa.
Laguna 69 to "Refugio Peru"
I left my group and joined the guys. The marker at the start says 2 hours - It took us 3 hours because of the altitude and at the end we were boulder hopping. The route contours round the side and does dip up and down 100 metres twice. Before the Refugio we descended to a small laguna where we started the boulder hopping past the Laguna and up to the Refugio. Whilst the track using open street data on the OSMAND app is correct, you are looking for piles of stones as markers and some of the rocks are wobbly!
Refugio Peru to Cebollapampa
If you have time, pop into the Refugio for a cup of tea - I was in a rush and only had 1.5 hours before the agreed return time of the car from Cebollapampa! This is a straightforward path downhill and I made it in 1 hour 40 minutes.
This is a thoroughly enjoyable hike and I think next time I would split it into a two-day hike and spend the night at the Refugio.

Hello! Is the way from laguna 69 to Refugio well indicated or is it confusing? Did you do the trail with or without a mountain guide? I’ll appreciate so much your help ☺️
Thanks, José María.
