Itinerary description

Great trail that takes in the Cerro Gordo & crosses two beaches. It was has magnificent views of the coast. It does involve walking down & back up a rather steep 4x4 track to reach Cantarriján beach & back to the start point. Walking back up is a pure slog!
The trail follows a circular route around the Cerro Gordo, once the loop is completed you need to walk along the road for a short while & then down a 4x4 track which takes you down to the beach, cross the beach to the other side & enter into the barranco, walk up it for a short while, then take the trail up to the left, it’s a fairly steep climb all the way up to the ridge, the latter part needs a little bit of scrambling but it’s fairly easy. On the ascent up look out for the markers (red & yellow arrows) & take the path that bares off & up to the right.
The trail leads across the ridge & then descends down onto a 4x4 track. At the 4x4 track, look to the right & you’ll see a signpost for ‘Sendero’ Bajada al Cañuelo follow that trail all the way down to the beach (you could walk down the 4x4 track but the trail is much nicer).
Walk across the beach & then take the trail that ascends up, the first part seems a little steep but again it’s fairly easy, it flattens slightly but continues going very gently up, (to the left & above is the ridge that we crossed earlier).
There’s an option to take a short diversion to a Torre, look for a trail that bares to the right) we didn’t do it today so it’s not recorded on this trail.
Eventually the trail leads up to the point where the red & yellow arrows marked the trail up to the ridge.
Retrace the path leading back down into the barranco & back across the beach, then back up the 4x4 track onto the road to the starting point.
