Itinerary description

This is a homologated hiking trail (PR-A 20) with a little "escape" to the beautiful mountain peak of the "Pico de la Carne", from where you can enjoy some of the most stunning views of the Sierra Nevada high, low and middle mountain range. These include several 3-thousanders, including the famous Veleta peak, the rugged crest of the "Alayos de Dílar" mountain chain, the striking peak of the Trevenque, the highest limestone mountain in Sierra Nevada and known as the "king of the mid-mountain", and last but not least, the beautiful twin peaks of the "Boca de la Pescá" towering infront of the valley that harbours Granada.

At times the trail is not very well defined; look out for the yellow and white stripes which indicate where the path is (a yellow-white cross indicates that it's NOT that direction, but the other).

To get to the "Pico de la Carne"-peak we leave the PR-A 20 trail following the sign (Pico de la carne 500m). Wenn on the summit, we can see the path to the south-east where we will descend. To get to that path is a bit tricky. We have to descend from the summit the way we ascended, and then turn left onto something that seems to be a path crossing our trail, but then again not...well, we try to find our way around the peak, and at some point we will automatically stumble upon that path we saw from above.

From there it's all descent, really really beautiful with stunning views...but quite a torture for the knees. The use of a walking pole is highly recommended as they reduce a good amount of the impact and your knees and ankles will notice.

The trail is easy. I put 'moderate' because of the Pico de la Carne bit, and because of the knee straining descent. But it's well worth it.
