Itinerary description

Take a walk on the Chachapoyas pre-Inca road from Chachapoyas to Collacruz. You will see from the pictures of the view and trail that this is a beautiful walk on history through a beautiful country. Most of the way was on a well defined rock path. The beginning, in the uphill direction that we chose to take, could be shortened by a taxi ride to the trail head. After we reached Collacruz we walked a kilometer or so to Levanto and caught a ride back to Chachapoyas. We did not stop at the other much more existing Chachapoyas ruins at Yalape on a different way back. You can find car directions to that site on another of my posts. There was a short portion of the middle of the trip where vegetation is encroaching onto the trail as pictured but still very passable. In a couple of places it was not immediately clear which path to take but following the rock road was always the correct choice and errors were only twenty or thirty feet. I highly recommend this health day trip.

After the trip, we walked about 1.5 kilometers to Levanto where we caught a taxi acting as a collectivo for 5 sol a person.
