Itinerary description
Chatillon en Diois is an old medieval town that surprised us in many ways. It is fantastically situated at 550m and has an amazing number of tiny maze-like alleys and houses, which are constructed in a very effective way. The alleys are narrow, the houses very close together, every available space has been used extremely efficiently.
Furthermore, wherever you walk in the old part of the town you can enjoy the sound of tinkling water from one or more of the 20 fountains to be found in the old part of the town.
Chatillon en Diois is a 'village botanique' and many plants are provided with a sign, indicating their names.
After visiting the old part of the town we folllowed a very nice 'sentier decouverte ecologique' track along the south side of the river. This track follows the river, which you will see underneath you, suppplying you with good views of the town and the valley. This track crosses the river to go back to town at the first bridge, but we continued a track through the open fields with good views of the wide valley with its numerous vineyards for another 2 kilometres and took the next river crossing back to Chatillon en Diois.
When you reach the camping after crossing the river here make sure that you follow a narrow path on the other side, the south side of the fence.
