Itinerary description
Start of a 4 day hiking trip. This first day was a long stretch and rather steep in the end. Basically 11 hours uphill. But nice transition from lowland agriculture to pine forest to alpine lava fields on the slopes of Pico Viejo. We carried 2 backpacks with tent and all the rest and lots of water (no possibility of gatting any on the way). You need a permit for camping on a designated camp area (free of charge). Camp area is a bit difficult to find. Minus 10 degree C during the night. The starting point was Casa Rural Merché, a nice and simple B&B with a wonderful host. The path is easy to find and of good quality, estimated difficult due to our lack of physical fitness!
