Pico Cerro Gordo, Monda
This walk starts adjacent the BP petrol station on the outskirts of Monda (on the right heading towards Coin on the A355).
The route takes you to the summit of Cerro Gordo (The Fat Hill). 674m
Half the walk is up the firebreak. The gradient isn’t too bad and the ground is mainly flat, but can be rocky in places.
When the firebreak ends keep heading straight up.
(Avoid the path to your right. I believe it goes to a goat farm which has some crazy dogs.
There used to be a circular walk around Cerro Gordo but these farmers have fenced off a third of the track so you can’t go around it anymore).
You pass some trees, then there are some goat tracks, but just keep heading up and you will eventually get to the summit about 15 minutes after the firebreak. Just use your judgement for the best way up and down. The last section you will have to climb up some rocks.
There are some amazing views from the summit – Torrecilla, Sierra Prieta, Sierra Alpujata, Sierra Mijas to name a few.
At the start of the walk there is a good restaurant – El Fogon de las Nieves. They do lovely tapas.

I loved this trail, I would like to add that you need to be in good shape if you want to make it all the way to the top, the last bit is pretty challenging and steep/rocky. The views were absolutely stunning indeed once we got to the top. We found that, after the fire break stops, if you move a little to the right of the last stretch (get to the top via the right side of the mountain) it is a little easier. Going straight on is definitely much more dificult.
