Itinerary description
Puig Roig, 1,003m provides stunning views of a good part of the Sierra de Tramuntana. The first 3 km are on clear trails then the ~2.5km to the summit is easy scrambling. Although the route is well marked with rock cairns, it does require comfort in alpine terrain and experience finding your way off established paths.
Access is through the Mossa Estate (off the Ma-10 road, between Pollensa and Lluc) and only allowed Sundays, year round. Dogs and bicycles are prohibited. There is limited parking on the road side, I parked ~0.4km from the estate gate entrance where there is space for a couple of cars.
The route starts following a wide track and turns off up stone stairs and through a gate just before the Casas de Mossa. After passing through a second gate the path narrows and turns left through the forest. A little further on the path begins to climb the side of the mountain, this is the Pas de ses Cases and connects the Casas de Mossa with the Coll de Ases (625 m high).
Shortly after the Coll the route leaves the trail and turns upwards at a rock milestone to the left. From here begins a climb in which there is no defined path but clear milestones guiding the way. The terrain is mostly rocky with short sections through spear grass. The steeper slopes can get slippery if there has been rain and care then required descending. The views the entire way up and especially at the summit reward the effort.
NOTE: my garmin watch recorded the distance 11.4km as and 643m elevation gain - just for reference for planning as the wikiloc recording is not as accurate.
