Itinerary description
The Montagne de Raton provides you with a perfect all around view and is accessible though a climb of less than 75 minutes.
From the parking place on the Col de Pommerol (also called Col de la Fromagere) a broad track ascends gently at first wih a few steeper parts in the first two kilometres but once the track veers south west it does so with a really steep climb and from now on, at 1270m the climb will remain steep and at the end of the climb you might have to use your hands. Technically, this climb is not difficult, however.
Once you have passed the last huge boulders and after that a short stretch to the ridge of the mountain you will find yourself on open grounds with magnificent views all around. To name a few: Les Trois Becs, Le Grand Delmas, Le Montagne de Couspeau, Le Vercors to the north from the west to the east, as well as Le Devoluy and even the Ecrins and of course all the mountain tops of Les Baronies and the whole of the Mont Ventoux to the south.
The descend from this ridge is steep for the first kilometre but if you do not go too fast not dangerous at all. After this steep stretch downhill the track turns east and the track will become more comfortable.
