Itinerary description
Moderate to difficult, but also awesome hiking trail, one of the top trails in the world based on continous refuges/campsites strategically spread on the way. It's about 80 Km. long and it takes a minimum of 4-5 days to do it properly. Accommodation is great but expensive, so I would recommend to carry on your own food that can be bought in Puerto Natales prior to the trip. We did it in 6 days, in April'19, but had bad weather on our 2nd day, therefore we repeated it into the 3rd day, adding the way back to Paine Grande. The time needed depends on your fitness but specially on the weight of your backpacks. We did it carrying 15 kgs each of us.
DAY 3: Lenght: 21.2 Km. Time: 9h 15'. Starting at Paine Grande, the way goes by lakes Pehoé and Scotssberg at first, until reaching the Refugio Italiano, where you can drop your backpack and face the uphill way to both Mirador Francés and Británico. The hardest day so far. Back to the Refugio Italiano, grab the big backpack and lead your legs until Domo Francés, with fantastic views of the Nordernskjöld lake.
