Itinerary description
The Pantà de Sant Ponç is a large water reservoir surrounded by farmland and thick woodland in the heart of the Solsonès. The walk starts at parking located next to the dam and for a while follows the beautiful outline of the reservoir along a broad lane before heading up via a side path in to the interior. The path moves upwards through dense woodland until it reaches an open field area. On the left the outline of of the small and beautifully preserved 18th century church of Sant Martí de Joval comes in to sight.
Once you reach the church soak in the views then retrace your steps and follow the narrow tarmacked road passing the tiny parish cemetery on your left. Once you get to an old farm the tarmacked road ends and you continue straight downhill following a winding path until you reach the rim of the reservoir. Follow large lane along the reservoir until the parking space.
Note: It is unfortunate that the owner of the lane, the Agència Catalana de l'Aigua, did not restrict its to non motorized form of transit. They missed a fantastic opportunity to market this lovely spot for ecological activities, walking, cycling and jogging. Hopefully, in the future, this may be rectified.
