Itinerary description
Sormiou is a little hamlet with a little beach where hundreds of people of Marseille flock together in the summer. There is not enough parking in Sormiou for all those people and traffic would be too busy on the small road, so you are only allowed to drive to Sormiou with a special permission in the peak moments of the peak season, Without that permission you have to park near the water company. Parking is free and guarded till 6:30 PM. You are warned that after that time, criminals often come to this place to break in the cars.
Start walking along the road to the Col de Sormiou. Follow the GR to the west. On the col de Cortiou take the path downwards to the sea (green waymarking). From time to time you have to scramble a little. Just before you have to climb away from the sea, you can follow a dead end path along nice rocks to a cove with an old water reservoir. Back on the main path you have a few passages which are not intended for people with vertigo or small children and which should be avoided in case of wet weather. You go back to the col de Cortiou along the easy GR (red/white; also black waymarking). Very beautiful walk !!
