Itinerary description
This walk gives a good impression of the highest situated village in the Axarquia with its Moorish roots and its baffling surrounding landscape.
The first part of the walk gives views to the western part of the village and into the valleys towards the north including the towns of Periana and Canillas de Aceituno.
This part of the walk does not always have visible tracks but is worthwile doing because of its wonderful views.
Once you get on the broad track above the Ma-3111 you will descend from 680m to 480m following the signposted Ruta Tejeda and at the lowest point start the ascent to the Comares, situated at 700m
This part of the walk is really beautiful. Impressive rock formations to the right, olivetree orchards, breathtaking views into the valleys and towards the high mountains and, above all, Comares appearing gradually right above you and in front of you.
At the Fuente Gorda a stony track leads up to a mirador/picknick place, Puente del Agua and after that you can roam through the village as you like.
We followed the silvery white footsteps on the pavement towards the remnants of the Castillo and from there skirted the outer eastern part of the village which has many viewpoints, after which we descended the many stone steps towards the parking places along the road.
