Itinerary description
The exact route taken by smuggler, Xan Mihura, from his farmhouse, JAURIKO BORDA, as he helped allied airmen over the Pyrenees and into Spain in 1941- 43. Xan would hide allied pilots in his hay loft at JAURIKO BORDA (while the Germans ate and drank in the farmhouse kitchen) and then would lead them over the passes of LAUSETA, LIZARTZU, ANTSETEIKO LEPOA, ITZULEGIKO LEPOA and south to KANTONEA BORDA above the village of AMAIUR. Please note that the EXACT route - retraced with the help of Xan's grandsons Juan Bidal and Jose Ignacio, is only between JAURIKO BORDA and KANTONEA. The descent to Amaiur and Elizondo (where embassy cars would often pick pilots up) is still to be research. What is documented from KANTONEA BORDA onwards is a direct route to AMAIUR and corn talos at the local watermill!
