Itinerary description
Starting at the A 7207 the walk is mainly on wide tracks with very little shade. For the first hour we descend some 50m over 3.5 km. After crossing the Rio Torrox, we have a little stop at what was an old power station and is now a summer school name (Fabrica de Luz)
We then start a steady ascent of some 70m over 5km up to the hamlet of Acebuchal ( the lost village) for our picnic, or a cold beer and tapas if you prefer.
After Acebuchal we take a single track up a slope of some 80m over 2km, before we come to a wide track with good views over the gorge of Frigiliana. This track will then take us along to join up with the main road to Frigiliana.
Acebuchal is a little village which was on the front line of a bloody guerrilla war fought against the Guardia Civil, the villagers were harassed from both sides. In the summer of 1948 the authorities ordered the residents of Acebuchal ( some 200 people) to abandon their homes. The village had long been suspected of providing refuge and food to the guerrillas. The village remained abandoned until 1998,then one man Antonio El Zumbo returned to Acebuchal and began to rebuild the village. There was no electricity or water until 2003, Antonios family now run the restaurant in the village.
