Itinerary description
We followed the goat track from Competa only for a part to make a different walk. Half way the goat track, when crossing the road, we leave the goat track and take a small trail going down to some houses. When on the road From Cómpeta to Canilles for some minutes, in a corner of this road, we walking down again on a roed and later a trail. When we were very close to Archez we decided to walk up on the main road between Archez and Canillas in the direction of Canillas de Albaida and then to the roman bridge. From there we follow the new trail to Archez which follows the agua channel and creek.
In Archez we took a refresco. You can walk into town as well to take a look at the old Moorish church tower. There are several bars, restaurants and supermarkets in this little town. Much more than you expect from such a small village.
Recommended for vegan food: Maison Mudejar (100m into this town)
Recommended for meat (carne) from the grill: Venta el Curro. (on route)
Other possebilities for refrescos: La Pene (on route) or the local bar at little bit up into this village at the road going into the village. Dont worrie it's a small town you will find your gps track again unless you like the bars too much.
After Archez we go back to Competa. For some minutes (10?) you follow the main road to Sayalonga and later on small trails. Halfway is bodega Jarrel (more refrescos? Take a look in their shop or at the wine making...), you cross the road, walk trough a field some more trails and you're back in Competa near Hotel Balcon with its terrace and nice views over the valley towards the sea. On your short walk trough town you see nice local pubs like Cafe Competa with good tapas and you end on the main square with more tapas bars, restaurants (and tourists).
I hope you enjoyed this 10km walk as much as we did.
Waypoints
Competa main plaza
Competa main plaza we started walking from the main plaza in Competa. When you arrive with a car plaza de la axarquia is your friend with many free parking places. Walk up the Calle Rampa to the main square to start your walk.
The old mill
Its worth taking a look at the other side of the old mill. It's a beautifull spot to take a break. Water, the old mill, the big tree in front. Inside the mill some old machinery but be carefull, walls and floors are not strong. Things can collapse when you touch or walk these. It'sbeen an electric station and flour mill...
River crossing
In winter there can be more water. Peligros? It depends. Just be carefull in summertime it should be very easy to cross. Just a warning to think about and decide for yourself
Bar la Pena, next to the river
Take a break here, or visit the tower, or lunch at the next restaurant 100 meter further
Venta el Curro
Vental el Curro is great when you like grilled meat. Their terrace with its big tree is very nice to sit in the shade during a hot afternoon. No problema when you only take a refresco
Nice wall
Leave the main road and go up this smaller street
Take the small trail into the field
Take the small trail into the field, right from this tree
Bodega Jarel
Bodega Jarel has a nice shaded terrace where you can try their wines. (Or just have a look in their shop, winery, grape press and other machines etc)
Cafe Competa tiene buenas tapas!
Meet locals. Good home-made tapas (Tapas de caseras). Closed on Sundays :-( as you can see on the photo. Recommended for good tapas.
