Itinerary description
This is a circular walk of the three villages.
Combining the three largest villages on the mountain, Cómpeta – Árchez – Canillas de Albaida and returning to Cómpeta.
There are beautiful views down to the coast as well as up to La Maroma.
The breakfast stop will be in Cómpeta, from where the walk begins.
From Cómpeta we descend by track to Árchez which like so many villages in the Axarquía area, is typically Arabic in its design. We will see a magnificent minaret of the former mosque with its diamond patterned (sebka) material and tiling.
From Árchez, we now continue uphill after crossing a small stream, the Rio Cajula several times on stepping stones, to the Finca Cerrillo, which is now a hotel. We then start to descend on a zig-zag path to the old Roman Bridge to cross once again, the Rio Cajula. We then have an ascent up into Canillas, where we have our lunch break.
After lunch, we walk through the village to the picturesque Ermita Santa Ana, from where we follow the route of the old irrigation channel back to Cómpeta and refreshments around the Plaza Almijara.

We did the route in reverse. The regular way ended up with a very long steep climb back up to Competa. We followed the river out of Archez, climbed up to the top. Then down and up into Albaida, and a nice level finish back to Competa.
Nice and beautifull walk. We walked end february. Clean fresh air and light clouds. 15 degree celsius and almost no wind. The 2 citys were nice and quiet. Last part of the track were a bit hard :-)
