Itinerary description

Cómpeta-Puerto del Collado-Cannillas de Albaida

From Cómpeta, plaza Almijara we walk, trough small moorish streets, towards the moorish cemetry and than up to the Venta de Palma tapas bar. If this was already to much for you than stay here, have a drink, tapa and go back.
Liked this litle climb? Well...lets go from here into the Parque Natural Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama, The entry is on the left side of the torrox road some 30 meters after Venta de Palma. A big sign tells you you're there. Most of the route , exept some parts, is easy to follow, and certainly not to steep.
We follow this winding road (going up) till Cruz Del Monte. At Cruz Del Monte you'll see many signs to give you an idea where you can go
From here we follow the road to Puerto del Collado (up).
At Puerto del Collado you have a very nice view over the mountains in the direction of Frigiliana. From Puerto del Collado we first walk in the direction of Casa de la Mina (down) and than, near some electricity poles, just before Casa de la Mina, we turn left into a small trail starting on the concrete of the left electricity pole. We go up, sometimes steep, towards the fire lookout. Half way we take a short break and, once again, enjoy the view. After this break we climbed the mountain to get to the fire lookout -on top of Cerro Gavilan- itslf. It's a steep and not very easy walk but if you did the first part till the resting point you can do this one as well. If you don't want just follow the lower road around this mountain for a more relax walk, It will come together with the road going down from the fire lookout ca 5 minutes later on your walk..
From the fire lookout we keep going down, follow the road going down.
-Keep following the GPS trail- It's an easy walk-.

Later, near the edge of the nature reserve, we start following a trail next the an aquaduct which ends at a Canillad de Albaida water reservoir. From there we follow the goat trail from Canillas de Albaida till we reach Cómpeta again. Take a breake at hotel Balcon or walk through the village till you at the main square "Plaza Almijara" again. We had a good lunch and some beers at a restaurant near the plaza after this 16km walk,

After a break half way you decide if you want to walk around this mountain or want to visit the fire lookout. It's a steep path going up. From the fire lookout you have a good view. When following the road down from the fire lookout you meet the other road wich goes around the mountain after ca 5 minutes.

Te aquaduct ends in a Waterreservoir. It's clear water. Very refreshing. But it's not a swiming pool. Take care of pipes going down sucking the water out, strong currents.

Cómpeta has many beautiful streets and plazas. It's a small (but not too small) village where many walkers and hikers go to enjoy the vast nature reverve. It has cozy squares with good restaurants. In the small, and often steep, streets with moorish influences you'll see many small shops, locals old and young. The locals are very friendly and always try to help you even if you do not speak perfect spanish. Just say Hola to greet them.
