Cordilheira Huayhuash - Half Trekking

[EN] Cordillera Huayhuash is a mountain range within the Andes in Peru, stretching from north to south. The main part consists of about 20 peaks in only 25 km of length, including the second highest Peruvian peak Yerupaja (6617 m / 21,709 ft; after Huascaran 6768 m / 22,204 ft) and Siula Grande (6344 m / 20,813 ft), which is famous due to Joe Simpson’s book Touching the Void in which he recounts his successful but disastrous and nearly fatal climb to this mountain.

The Huayhuash trekking is known as one of the most beautiful treks in the world. Due to high altitude passes, it is not an easy trek, but the spectacular views over the surrounding mountains, turquoise blue lakes and impressive landscapes totally pay off the effort.

This is a half trekking and can be done in tree or four days. You passes in the best views of the Huayhuash like paso San Antonio, paso Cuyoc, Trapecio, laguna Carhuacocha and termas viconga.

I bring two mountain food per day (lunch and dinner), a lot of cereal bar, coffe, cookies, dry fruits, 3L of water.

There are a lot of options of water in this trail, but if you want to drink this water is highly recommended boiling before or bring a filter like Lifestraw or Sawyer. I choose Lifestraw and I had no problems.

Two person tent, sleeping bag -10C, but if you feel cold easily bring a better option. Sleeping mat STS Either light, 45l backpack, stove, good second skin, good warm clothes, medicines and hygiene items.

To reach there I pay the transport with agency and his clientes and we go with Sprinter. To leave there the Sprinter leave me in Barranco and I took a shared taxi to return to huaraz 50soles.

It's recommendable you to do at least a 1-Day hike in altitude to be acclimatized before doing this tour.

Trekking feito de forma autônoma, sem ajuda de arrieros, carregando tudo que precisava, desde de barraca, isolante, saco de dormir de -10C, mochila de 45L, roupas muito quentes. Senti muito frio lá talvez a minha maior dica é se preocupar principalmente com o frio pensando em temperaturas inferiores a -10C. Teve dias que sofri com desidratação pelo fato do sol de dia ser muito forte.
Mal de altitude não tive pois estava aclimatado.

É uma trilha que tem muito movimento de agências e se você tem capacidade de carregar suas próprias coisas por alguns dias é possível que seja feita de forma autónoma.

Para se chegar no início da trilha e ser resgatado contratei uma vaga numa van que levaria uma agência com clientes deles. É difícil conseguir essa opção portanto o ideal é ir passando nas agências do centro, na vila suíça, etc e ir consultando. Demorei uns cinco dias pra conseguir essa opção.

A opção de ir de táxi é muito cara 500soles e ainda tem a volta.

A Cordilheira Huayhuash é um lugar maravilhoso, cheio de vida selvagem e pessoas nativas de bom coração.
Mas infelizmente vi um bocado de lixo lá largado por agências e também por trekkers. Se você for, traga todo seu o lixo de volta, deixar o mínimo impacto negativo lá!
