Itinerary description
This has the reputation as the hardest stage. And it is. The day is long, the 1100m uphill seems interminable, but it is also beautiful and thoroughly enjoyable. Then you reach the final few kms and 500m steep up. Who would put a refuge at the top of a ridiculously steep, long climb????
Leaving Sorteny you follow the dirt road and then cut to a nice, long downhill, later following the touristy Ruta del ferro (Iron route). From Llorts begins a long, long uphill. However, it is a good, easy to follow trail. Once past the refuge of Angonella comes the lake. A nice place to rest an dgather strength for the push to the saddle. This is an unpleasant scree slope, with much backward slipping. However when you reach the top it is beautiful. You are at the top of the world and, provided the weather is good, the views go on for ever. Enjoy it.
Turn left and follow the obvious path to the nearby summit then start the downhill. After spotting the Refuge del Pla de la Estany there is a section along a dirt road. Not pretty but fast going. Around the 20km mark you cross a river and start the uphill. The problems really arrive around 21km when it gets steep and stays steep. Be strong. The refuge awaits with wine and plenty of other tired people complaining about the uphill. And tomorrow is mainly downhill, after the first 500m uphill :)

The description there is in Spanish. My contribution, apart from making myself very tired, is to write in English.
