Itinerary description
This was a fabulous 2 day walk, with some variation to the route on the return leg. I have classed it as "difficult" due to the steep and rocky ascents and descents. This route is not recommended if you have dodgy knees or ankles! We did it at a relaxed pace with plenty of time to enjoy the amazing views and scenery.
Day 1: Cortes to Villaluenga via Cortijo Edmundo and Camino Grazalema.
The route via Cortijo Edmundo is lovely and it's well worth doing this variation (we came back a different route, so although some sections are the same, it makes an interesting and varied 2 day route).
Park on the track just above the school at Cortes de la Frontera. Start by following the marked trail (recently marked up as part of the GR249.6). Then leave the trail when you are above Cortijo Edmundo and follow the Camino de Grazalema. Unfortunately the access to Camino Grazalema has been blocked by a fence near the animal pens - but it's easy to climb over without damaging anything. Then walk up the Llano de Libar to re-join the GR249.6 just before the Puerto de Correos, and onto Villaluenga on the main signposted route.

Leave the main track and follow the GR249.6 on a cobbled mule path
The cobbled mule path cuts off some of the corners of the track, but you could just go uphill on the driveable track if you prefer.

Leave the GR249.6 here for the route via Cortijo Edmundo (you can see the ruin below)

Grassy spot with horses. TAKE CARE there is a very deep sink hole near here (see notes)
In the rocks and bushes near here there is a very large "sima" (about 3m in diameter and unprotected at the top) which is extremely deep and dangerous. It goes vertically down and you can't see the bottom...Take great care if leaving the main grassy route.
