Itinerary description
After finding parking, head back along the road leaving the car park on Formentor beach on the left. At a chain gate close to a curve at Km 8, turn right off the asphalt road and follow the wide dirt path to a small lime kiln and a stone hut. Head left here through the forest to the edge of the cliff and first views: the islet of Colomer to the right, the cliffs of the Sierra del Cavall Bernat and the Sierra de Cornavaques on the left.
From here follow the ridge, there is no path but there are rock cairns to help guide the way. Before the last uphill to the peak, you descend to the east along a rocky pass, important to note as to the right of this is where you return to descend. Continue following the ridge to the summit of Farrandell (309 m) with its beautiful views of Puig Pal. Go back along the same path to the pass to continue down, finding the best route as there is no path or markers of any kind here. About 20 min later you connect to a dirt path/road that descends gently through the pine forest. It passes by huge water tanks and ends back at the paved road, requiring a scramble over the fence. Follow the road back at the starting point.
This is a beautiful area and the route is short and fun with amazing views. Note: keep in mind that the terrain is rocky, there are some steeper sections and comfort route finding is required because the majority of the hike has no trail.
