Itinerary description

A multi-day village to village trek combining some of Crete's hiking highlights: Samaria Gorge, Imbros Gorge (or Sfakia Gorge), Agia Irini Gorge, and the picturesque south coast. Many stages can be skipped by transport or using coastal ferries, to a total length of 4-7 days.
Arrival: Fly to Chania (CHQ) on the Greek island of Crete. Take a 60km taxi or bus to Imbros village (or Impros).
Departure: Buses from Paleochora town to Chania (90 min), stay in Chania for a day or so, then fly out.

Day 1: From Imbros village (800m) via Imbros Gorge to Chora Sfakion village at sea level. 10km and -800m total. A tougher aletnative via Sfakia Gorge is 13km with +400m and -1200m. This day can be skipped by arriving to Chora Sfakion instead of Imbros.
Day 2: From Chora Sfakion village via Anapoli village and Aradena Gorge to Loutro village. 13km and +/-600m total. This day is almost a loop and can be skipped.
Day 3: From Loutro village via south Crete beaches and pine slopes to Agia Roumeli village. 14km +/-300m total. This day can be skipped by taking a ferry (twice daily) from Loutro to Agia Roumeli: https://www.sfakia-crete.com/sfakia-crete/ferries.html and http://nenkritis.gr/
Day 4: From Agia Roumeli village up Samaria Gorge to the trailhead (one hotel at 1200m). 14km total +1200m.
Day 5: From Samaria Gorge trailhead (1200m) via Kallergis shelter (1600m) and Omalos village (1050m) to Anatolikos Selinos village (one hotel: Porofarago at 600m). 15km total +400m -1000m. Samaria gorge is usually open only from May to October - check online before traveling! https://samaria-tickets.necca.gov.gr/checkout The shelter is open daily April-October, operated by: https://www.eoshanion.gr/ Optional extras and detours: Melintaou peak (2100m) and a nice level trail going south from Omalos southern access road.
Day 6: From Porofarago hotel via Agia Irini Gorge down to Sougia on the south coast. 11km total -600m. This day can be skipped by departing from Omalos.
Day 7: From Sougia via Lissos Gorge and archaeological site to Paleochora town (90 min by bus to Chania). 13km total +/-500m. This day can be skipped by departing from Sougia.
