Itinerary description
This hike approximates to the hike with the same name in the Rother walking guide to Gran Canaria.
The trail starts on the large car park near the Parador Cruz de Tejeda. Two trails exit the small car park opposite, and we want to take the wide track to the left, protected by a row of bollards, signed S90 to Valsendero/Artenara. The trail is initially steep, climbing to the left of a concrete reservoir, and upwards for another few minutes until the path levels out and becomes more undulating.
The trail emerges briefly onto a road at the Degollada de las Palmas briefly, and this is an alternative start for those who wish to miss the steepest part of the ascent, but at the cost of missing stunning views across to Tenerife, and a lovely stretch of contouring footpath.
Keep walking with the edge of the cliff on your left until the path moves away to the right, and eventually crests a rise and starts to go down hill. At this point, cut up left through the woods for about 75 yards until you are back on the cliff edge path.
From here the path contours around the crag with the aerials on to with stunning views across to the Roque de Nublo and to the west coast. When you get to the junction at the Cuevas del Caballero, turn right and follow the path around the summit until you meet with the path you came up for the return to the car park.
This is another walk which looks far harder at the outset than it actually is. Stunning views throughout and a good trail make the miles pass unnoticed.
