Itinerary description
A nice walk through atmospheric woodland from the bus stop at the viewpoint of Cruz del Carmen (no 77 bus from the Intercambiador at La Laguna, good toilets there and a decent cafe/restaurant) to the bus stop in the village of Las Carboneras (no 275 bus back to La Laguna.)
The first stage takes the path to the right hand side of the restaurant and descends througj the wood via a steep path with some steps and some bare rock - slippery in the light rain we had on our hike. At the crossroads with the wide Pista de las Yedras take the small path that descends via steep steps to the head of a stream. You then ascend up the other side of the ravine, coming out of the wood with a small hamlet of houses in front of you. Turn left to stay on the sendeto to Las Carboneras. We turned right to the road to check bus times at the bus stop there. We then continued to Las Carbonaras on the road because we wanted to avoid more slippery rocks. The road is narrow with many blind corners and needs care to use it safely. The sendero is safer, though both are picturesque.
Thrre are some great views from the centre of the village of Las Carbonaras. The restaurant is friendly and the food (and red wine) are great value for money. A nice place to pass time while waiting for the bus.
