Itinerary description

This well signposted part of the Dry Stone Route (Ruta de la Pedra en Sec) GR-221 links the Cúber reservoir with the sanctuary in Lluc.
Start at 231 busstop Cúber 2 close to Font des Noguer at km mark 33,8 on the road Ma-10. Walk parallel to a cement water channel, with impressive panoramic views of the Puig Major and the Gorg Blau reservoir.
The walk passes Coll des Coloms and briefly deviate to reach the Font des Prat de Massanella. Then climbs up to Coll des Prat at 1,205 m altitude (the highest point on the entire GR-221) and later the Coll de ses Cases de Neu at 1,142 m altitude. At this point the walk momentarily deviate from GR-221 route to go to the top of Puig d’en Galileu at 1,181 m altitude with fantastic views. The walk passes icehouses like Cases de neu d’en Galileu and ends at the bus (231 Soler / 312 Inca) stop at the Lluc monastery.

Lluc:
As the administrative centre of the municipality of Escorca, Lluc is the meeting point for Mallorquins who visit the shrine of the Virgin Mary. Features of Lluc that are worthy of special mention include Es Porxets, formerly the lodgings for the pilgrims there; the buildings of Ca s'Amitger, which at present house an information centre about the Serra de Tramuntana; the Camí des Misteris, a track that climbs the Pujol de sa Trobada hill where tradition has it that a shepherd named Lluc found the figure of the Virgin, and, last but not least, the church, with a basilical f loor plan and architectural features from different periods, together with a shrine where the figure of the Virgin, probably dating back to the 14th century, is displayed.

Cúber reservoir is located in a natural depression. The Cúber reservoir has an area of 59.3 ha and a maximum capacity of 4.6 hm3. Originally designed to produce electricity, it was converted to supply the city of Palma with drinking water. It also receives water from the nearby Gorg Blau reservoir, which is at a slightly lower altitude. The water is initially pumped, but then gravity makes it run down an open channel over 5 km long.
